Up All Night 1.24 “The Proposal” Review

April 16, 2012 | No Comment |

This was the penultimate episode of season one and what the writers did was to go back to the night Reagan and Chris agreed to hook up. The episode was titled ‘The Proposal’ and what it showed was that there hooking up did not follow after what any one would naturally say is normal. The episode was indeed one with lots of surprises and the return of Kevin played by Jason Lee was just one of them.

Up All Night Season 1 Episode 24

The characters all came with a good outing in this episode. Julian was one of those that were on fire and had some really laugh out loud moments through out her screen time. She was the one that convinced Kevin to propose to her. It could be called manipulation but it was funny. Kevin’s reference to what he called his pocket Pinocchio was hilarious.

There were several memorable quotes in this episode that was befitting for a season’s finale. Ava has grown in this season. Maya Rudolph has done a very good job of developing one of the best new characters on television. She is actually more than the comedic even though her lines more or less like the hooks to every joke. She has been shown to be well balanced and not just a character that delivers punch lines. She could say some really absurd thing like what she pointed out with Chris and then she can also act like a very sensible person like when she told Kevin that they should put the issue of marriage in the back seat while they focus on connecting once more.

If there was any thing fans would have asked for that was not there was that Missy’s offbeat commentary coming at the last scene was not there in this episode. Jennifer Hall came into the show last but she had made a tremendous impact in the show this season. But it was Terry and Gene that had been having more screen time in episodes lately. The anniversary dinner they had in this episode seemed to have outdone all the times they had been on screen together this season.

Cristina Applegate and Will Arnette’s characters of Chris and Reagan have always had a wonderful onscreen chemistry but the good thing with theirs was that it kept on getting better as the episodes grew. The proposal was unusual but it showed that this show had come a long way and there is every expectation that it would be renewed for another season.
